Autumn 2010 E-bulletin

This is our fourth e-bulletin, designed to keep residents, visitors, businesses and everybody else informed of news and activity taking place in the Masterplan area. The e-bulletin is published quarterly and highlights achievements and developments in key areas:

    Improving housing conditions for residents
    The creation of employment opportunities
    Enabling business start up / growth
    Implementing environmental improvements

The official opening of the Grosvenor Ground natural play area will take place on Saturday 13th November from 12 noon to 3pm. A range of fun activities are planned and the Lord Mayor will perform the official opening.

The new play area will provide exciting new recreation and activity space for the community and the equipment installed includes stone climbing boulders, swings, slides, monkey bars and climbing nets.

Cllr David Green, Executive Member for Regeneration and Economy and Chair of the Manningham Masterplan, said: "The residents in Manningham wanted a safe and secure place where young people could play and residents could relax and Grosvenor Ground will deliver exactly that."

Supporting environmental improvement works and bringing derelict land back into use for the community are key objectives of the Manningham Masterplan.

Community and Business Day planned

Action for Business Ltd (ABL) and the [email protected] CBC are planning a community and business open day on Thursday 2nd December 2010 at Carlisle Business Centre. The event will run from 11:00am to 2pm.

The aim of the event is to showcase the services and facilities they offer.

There will be information on what Manningham has to offer and how to get involved. There will also be stalls showing ABL’s community projects as well as advice for those wishing to start their own business.

Manningham Lane has seen a spate of new commercial activity in recent months.

Following the opening of Tesco Express on 15th October, Toys R Us and Babies R Us based at Manningham Lane Retail Park opened their doors on Saturday 23rd October and expect to create up to 50 new jobs. Tesco have carried out environmental improvements and tree planting around the site as part of the planning permission.

Bed retailer, Dreams is expected to open soon.

A new ‘one-stop shop’ for new businesses has also opened at the York House Centre on Manningham Lane. Pinnacle Accountants have invested £500,000 in the venture, which it hopes to turn into a hub for local businesses. Work on housing plan nears completion

Work on the Manningham Neighbourhood Development Plan (NDP) is nearing completion.

The Plan is being produced to help the Council and Manningham Masterplan understand how to deliver the Masterplan in difficult economic circumstances.

Bowling College has opened the doors for adult learners at the Velvet Mill, with a range of courses being offered. The college plans to establish Velvet Mill as a centre of excellence for adult learners. Further details can be obtained by ringing the college on 01274 773310.

In addition, retailer Magic Streetwear has opened up in part of the Mill, on the corner of Heaton Road and Scotchman Road. The firm received support and advice from Bradford Kickstart and has created 6 new jobs in the process, with more likely to follow.
